4 Ways to Avoid Scams on Asian Dating Websites

Whilst Asian dating websites can be fun places to meet attractive, single Asian members, they can sometimes be hunting grounds for scammers. These people may want to steal your money or even your identity, so it’s definitely worth keeping a watchful eye on the information you give out when looking for dates online. With that in mind, here are 3 great ways to avoid scams when using an Asian dating site…

1: Check the site’s advice pages

A dating website’s advice pages are hardly the rock ‘n roll parts of the site, but they’re important. Here, you’ll find information about how to avoid scams which have been seen on the site in the past. This can be especially useful because particular features and communication tools may be used for particular scams. For example, if the site uses telephone chat, you could be called up and asked for your banking information by someone posing as a member of the site’s administration team. So it’s worth exploring the site’s specific advice with regards to the services they offer.

2: Fake profiles and instant instant-messages

This is probably the most common scam we’ve seen: some scammers produce fake profiles (usually of very attractive women) to encourage you to talk to them. From there, they might ask you to join another site, pay to chat with them, or even ask for your personal information. If you’re suddenly receiving chat requests by model-esque members (sometimes before you’ve even managed to complete your profile) then we suggest being very cautious. Whilst some of these members could be genuine, we’re usually quite suspicious of anyone who wants to chat with us before we’ve managed to finish creating our accounts.

3: If in doubt, contact the customer support team

Scammers are clever. They know how to trick people, how to gain someone’s confidence or how to leech information from them. If you’re ever approached online by someone asking for information, and you’re not sure whether you might have been scammed or not, get in touch with the customer support team. They may investigate your correspondences and make recommendations on what to do (such as cancelling a bank card, or telling your bank what’s happened). Or, they may tell you that everything is fine, and not to worry! If you’re ever uncertain as to whether you want to provide specific information to someone during a chat, we generally recommend being cautious. You shouldn’t feel pressured into revealing your private details.

4: Be friendly, but cautious

Whilst scams are a genuine possibility on any dating website, you shouldn’t let it ruin your fun. Be aware of potential scams, but don’t let them dominate everything you do. If someone asks about your vacation, they’re probably not trying to work out when you’ll be out of your home so they can burgle you, for example. But if they ask you for money to fly out to visit you, after having known you for 10 minutes, that’s probably not such an innocent request. Remember, it’s fine to say that you’d rather not give out certain information, and if you’re pushed for it then your alarm bells should be ringing. In those cases, contact the customer support team. Otherwise, have fun chatting to Asian singles from around the world!

The lowdown…

Avoiding most scammers isn’t that difficult. The simple rules are to be wary of anyone asking for your personal details, particularly if they’ve just met you. If you’re asked for money, that should also be a flashing warning light to you. Random requests for saucy chats, especially before you’ve finished building your profile page, are often not genuine requests from a regular member looking to date. If in doubt or you don’t feel comfortable with a request, don’t give out your information. From there, contact the customer services team for help.
